Alter

The Alter Project by James Smith was a commission to provide a photographic audit of where we are now in parts of Corby that are soon to change as part of the regeneration of the town. The work focussed on how the environment impacts on people's lives and vice versa.

Our role in marketing the project was to build the project up from scratch designing identity, printed material and the web site.

The web site was designed and built to display a constantly growing library of photographs over the life of the project, resulting in an extensive catalogue of over 500 photographs. Navigation, speed and ease of use (for both visitor and owner) were extremely important to make sure the photography was as accessible as possible.

Alongside the photography we needed a way to keep the site interesting and up-to-date to keep everyone involved up to speed on how the project was progressing. We found the best way to accomplish this was to include a diary section for James to keep updating after each day of his shoot. The result was a great collection of anecdotes about the people and the places which helped give the photography and the project all important context.

The project was well received by everyone involved and also by the media, appearing in publications (The Guardian Guides' Pick of the week 4 weeks running), tv and the internet - you can read the bbc article about the project here » BBC article on Alter

Unfortunately you have missed the exhibition, but you can see the whole project on the web site at www.alterproject.co.uk and you can see more of James' work on his website www.jamessmithphotographer.co.uk.
